World Earth Day
April 22nd is Earth Day and each year it is marked by more than 1 billion people worldwide taking action to tackle environmental problems, raising awareness of the need for climate action and changing human behaviour to advance sustainability.
The first Earth Day took place in the USA in 1970 when 20 million Americans came together to demonstrate against big environmental issues that were being ignored at that time including oil spills, river and air pollution. In 1990, Earth Day went global!
This year’s theme is ‘Invest in our Planet’ and MPI has taken great strides over recent years to accomplish this, driven by the incredible commitment and work carried out by everyone in the company.
Over the past 3 years we have transferred to 100% renewable energy, installed solar panels and EV charge points at head office, cut back on paper usage by over 90%, reduced waste by 50%, lowered carbon emissions by 43% and offset what is left each year through verified tree planting activities to become carbon neutral. We have also invested in flora and fauna conservation and protection programmes, as well as increased our voluntary work in the community.
Together we have transformed the business and are on target to achieving net zero by 2030.
Happy Earth Day and a big thank you to everyone who has helped MPI make a difference!
